Packaging
Concerns
continue to mount in the manufacturing,
recycling, and environmental industries
regarding toxic elements in consumer products,
and in their packaging. Nineteen U.S. states
have implemented toxics in
packaging laws
prohibiting the sale or distribution of
packaging containing intentionally added
cadmium, lead, mercury, and hexavalent chromium.
Additionally, the European Union Directive
94/62/EC calls for Member States to enforce
similar standards.
Handheld NITON x-ray fluorescence (XRF)
analyzers provide quick and easy screening of
packaging materials for cadmium, lead, mercury
and total chromium, with pass/fail results
reported directly on the instrument’s display.
Due diligence with NITON XRF analyzers has
already become the norm in the
metal alloy and
electronics markets. These proven and
accepted tools are now increasingly being used
with consumer goods, throughout the supply chain
to verify compliance with laws and directives.
